of light both day and night to reduce circadian disruption and the associated health risks from light at night.
CIRCADIAN Lights are designed for maximum productivity, performance, and well being.
As one the finalist of the 2019 LEDs Magazine’s Illumineer of the Year Award, CIRCADIAN LIGHT brings breakthrough research on human circadian clocks at Harvard Medical School, CIRCADIAN has led in the transition of medical science breakthroughs into the 24/7 workplace. We are unique in deeply understanding both the science, and the practical realities of 24/7 work.
“With mounting evidence that light can both entrain and disrupt circadian rhythms and impact human health and wellbeing, there is a critical need for the lighting industry to define the circadian spectral characteristics of light and to develop dynamic lighting solutions to address this risk. Over the past five years, Circadian Light has accomplished both tasks: creating evidence-based specifications for workplace circadian lighting, and developing specialized LED chips, control systems, and luminaires for 24/7 operations. […] While other research teams have studied short-term exposure (up to 90 minutes) to monochromatic lights and found short wavelengths are much more potent than long wavelengths in suppressing melatonin, Circadian wanted to replicate normal workplace conditions. They studied freely moving human subjects under 500 lux (table top) polychromatic white light for 12-hour work shifts to more precisely define the circadian potent wavelengths under real world conditions.
LEDs Magazine is pleased to announce the product finalists across 19 technology categories in the 2019 Sapphire Awards.
Following the recent announcement of the Illumineer of the Year shortlist, LEDs Magazine is rolling out more finalists for the annual Sapphire Awards. This time we are featuring the exciting product developments across 19 technology categories that represent the entire LED and solid-state lighting (SSL) supply chain, from enabling components and test tools to controls and lighting end products. All of the leading-edge products on this list demonstrated the qualities expected in the awards program — viability for commercialization, reliable and efficient performance, contribution to profitability, and ease of use.
The Sapphire Awards judging panel found the number of advances this year to be particularly telling of the progress the SSL industry has made of late in delivering unique form and function in modern fixtures; addressing emerging applications by applying the latest research to both component and SSL product development; and improving light and color quality for an enhanced experience.
“Our 2019 Sapphire entries showed that the LED and SSL sectors have vigilantly tackled the issue of light quality and have made great strides from the component level to end products,” said Maury Wright, editor LEDs Magazine. “At the same time, we continue to see great innovation via connectivity, controls, and tunable spectrum. The finalists that we have just announced represent the most compelling innovations in the industry and we look forward to celebrating the winners at our Sapphire Gala.”
